During the first year's eSafety Challenge event which has taken place in Rome on 8 September 2009, three Excellence prizes were handed out to recognize the merits of several actors for their important efforts in the deployment of eSafety technologies. The prize categories address three sectors in which eSafety deployment requires particular support: Marketing, Driver training and Car sales.
The winners had been selected from 25 candidates by an independent panel comprising of a broad range of eSafety stakeholders. The prizes were handed out by the 'Make Roads Safe' Global Ambassador Michelle Yeoh to three organisations which were particularly active in their field:
- Renault Spain has received the prize for Excellence in Marketing for their specific efforts in eSafety advertising and for being the first car manufacturer to make ESC standard in the C segment car model in Spain. The award was received by Mr. Jesus Presa, director of Communication for Renault Spain.
- The German Road Safety Council (DVR), represented by its President Mr. Walter Eichendorf received the prize for Excellence in Driver Training for DVR’s ‘Bester Beifahrer’ campaign, informing drivers about eSafety benefits.
- Auto deGraef, a Fiat car dealer from Cologne, Germany has received the prize for Excellence in Car Sales for their proactive promotion of eSafety and the high level of eSafety information provided to clients by its sales staff.
