eSafety on Board exhibition at Rally de Portugal

From 27-30 May 2010, the Rally de Portugal hosted the first ever Road Safety Expo to be held at a World Rally Championship event. The 18 special stage event, attracting 550,000 spectators, took place in Faro’s Algarve Stadium.

The expo, hosted by ACP, the Portuguese Automobile Club in the Rally’s service park, involved various information stands from several road safety stakeholders. The eSafety on Board truck gave motorsport enthusiasts the opportunity to learn about the background and benefits of advanced vehicle safety technologies such as Electronic Stability Control, Lane Support Systems, Blind Spot Monitoring, Warning and Emergency Braking Systems, Speed Alert, and Adaptive Headlights. A video with supporting quotes from some of the world’s leading drivers such as Michael Schumacher, Heikki Kovalainen, Robert Kubica, Timo Glock, Giancarlo Fisichella, Tom Kristensen, and Susie Stoddart was also on show.

The exhibition was officially opened by eSafetyAware President Jean Todt, the Portuguese Minister of Interior Dr Rui Pereira, and ACP President Carlos Barbosa, paying a visit to the eSafety on Board truck. Gaby Roosen, Campaign Manager of eSafetyAware, presented the campaign’s objectives and activities.

In his continuous support of the eSafety on Board message, six-time World Rally Champion, Sébastien Loeb paid a visit to the eSafety on Board truck testing the ESC step on simulator in front of the press and ACP President Carlos Barbosa.
